A U.S.-German national has been charged after allegedly threatening to attack the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv and assassinate U.S. President Trump.

A dual U.S. and German citizen was arrested Sunday for allegedly attempting to burn down the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv.

Officials said 28-year-old Joseph Neumayer was taken into custody at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York after being deported by Israeli authorities. He had been found near the embassy with explosive devices in a backpack.

Authorities say Neumayer had posted threats on social media, pledging to "burn down the embassy in Tel Aviv" and calling for "death to Americans." He also allegedly threatened to assassinate U.S. President Donald Trump.

Neumayer has appeared in court and is charged with planning an attack, issuing death threats against Americans, and threatening the life of the president.

He is currently being held in jail and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
