Indonesia and China signed four new memorandums of understanding to deepen economic cooperation across key sectors, reaffirming their commitment to free trade during Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s official visit to Jakarta.
Indonesia and China signed four memorandums of understanding (MOUs) to expand economic cooperation in areas ranging from tourism to trade, in a show of growing bilateral ties and mutual commitment to free trade amid ongoing global tariff disputes.
The signing ceremony was led by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Chinese Premier Li Qiang during the latter’s official visit to Jakarta. The two leaders announced strengthened collaboration in key sectors including tourism, agricultural exports, health, investment, media, and strategic trade exchanges.
Premier Li was given a formal welcome at the presidential Merdeka Palace, where he was escorted by cavalry soldiers across the palace lawn. The ceremony was followed by a bilateral meeting between Chinese and Indonesian delegations.
During the meeting, Premier Li praised the current state of bilateral relations, stating that China and Indonesia were entering a new era of cooperation. “We are committed to elevating our ties to a new historical height and opening broad prospects for bilateral cooperation,” he said.
Li’s visit follows President Prabowo’s trip to Beijing in November 2024, which aimed to deepen the countries' comprehensive strategic partnership. The current visit by the Chinese Premier reaffirms China’s support for that commitment and underscores the nations’ intent to continue expanding joint initiatives despite broader global trade tensions.
The agreements mark another step forward in Indonesia and China’s evolving economic relationship, with both countries signaling their intention to foster closer ties and increased cooperation across diverse sectors.
