Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the western Kursk region for the first time since Russian forces pushed Ukrainian troops out last month.

Putin met with volunteer organizations and local officials, including acting governor Alexander Khinshtein, during his visit to the Kursk-II nuclear power plant in the Kursk region. He was accompanied by Sergei Kiriyenko, the Kremlin's first deputy chief of staff.

Russia announced in late April that it had regained control of the Kursk region after repelling the largest Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory since World War Two. This followed Ukraine’s August 6 offensive, which temporarily captured nearly 1,400 square kilometers of the area, supported by drones and Western weapons.
