Russia says drone attack damages logistics hub in Samara region

A large-scale drone attack has hit Russia's Samara region, damaging facilities and disrupting operations at an Ozon logistics complex, according to regional authorities and the company.

Putin says Russia’s September elections will confirm state stability

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the 18-20 September legislative elections will confirm the stability of the Russian state and the maturity of its political system.

Speaking at the United Russia party congress, Putin said the vote would demonstrate Russia’s ability to withstand external threats and protect its sovereignty and security.

He also said Moscow would continue large-scale projects focused on public administration, defence, economic growth and social development.

The election will determine all 450 seats in Russia’s State Duma. Putin also accused Ukraine of intensifying strikes on Russian infrastructure as fighting continues, while both Moscow and Kyiv deny deliberately targeting civilians.

Germany’s FM to discuss Ukraine peace efforts with Rubio

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul says he will discuss efforts to revive Ukraine peace talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio next week.

Speaking in Kyiv, Wadephul said Germany, France and the UK would continue working closely together, while stressing the need to explore “every possible avenue” for negotiations.

He said Moscow was currently “standing in the way” of talks. Wadephul is also discussing defence cooperation and preparations to support Ukraine through the coming winter.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha says lasting peace with Russia is only possible with Europe actively involved in negotiations.

Speaking alongside Germany’s foreign minister in Kyiv, Sybiha called for renewed peace talks, stronger sanctions on Russia and greater pressure through frozen Russian assets. He said there should be “no pauses” in diplomatic efforts to end the war.

Ukraine's military said it struck the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Russia's Samara region overnight, causing a fire at the facility.

The military said the extent of the damage was still being assessed.

Ozon logistics facility hit in Samara region

 

An Ozon logistics complex in the city of Chapayevsk was hit in the attack, sparking a warehouse fire, the company said. More than 500 employees were evacuated, several people were injured and operations at the facility were suspended indefinitely.

Local Telegram channels said a drone threat alert was issued in Samara at around 02:47 on 22 August. Unverified footage showing smoke and fire later circulated on social media.

Russian authorities and Ozon have not provided further details about the attack.
