North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made a rare public visit to the Russian embassy in Pyongyang alongside his daughter on Friday, joining in celebrations for Victory Day and reaffirming his commitment to deepening the strategic alliance between North Korea and Russia.
In a symbolic gesture underscoring deepening ties, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the Russian embassy in Pyongyang with his daughter on Friday to commemorate Russia’s Victory Day, which marks 80 years since the Soviet Union's triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II, state media reported.
Kim expressed North Korea’s intent to further “consolidate and develop the long tradition of DPRK-Russia relations, the noble ideological foundation, and the invincible alliance” between the two nations, according to KCNA.
The celebration coincided with Russia’s grand military parade in Moscow, attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Chinese troops marched in the event, while North Korean soldiers were seen observing the parade. Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted North Korean military officials afterward, shaking hands and embracing one of the generals.
North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui also reiterated the strength of bilateral ties, stating, “Pyongyang and Moscow will always be together.”
