On Wednesday, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed full confidence in U.S. President Donald Trump and defended his initiatives ahead of a planned meeting with the Russian leader.
Rutte told reporters: “I have full confidence in President Trump, and he is the only one who can get this done.” He described Trump’s leadership as crucial while commenting on the U.S. president’s shifting stance regarding Ukraine’s territorial recovery and negotiations with Vladimir Putin.
The Secretary General highlighted Trump’s goal of ending bloodshed and achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict, stressing the importance of engaging all parties, including Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Summit Plans Temporarily Postponed
Following a “productive” call between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, plans for a second Trump-Putin summit have been temporarily put on hold.
