U.S. President Donald Trump says his meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskiyy went well, while expressing disappointment in Russia’s continued strikes on Ukrainian civilians.
U.S. President Donald Trump says he is "very disappointed" that Russia has continued attacking Ukrainian civilian areas.
His remarks came after he publicly rebuked Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying there is "no reason" for Russia to launch missile strikes on civilians and warning of possible secondary sanctions if the attacks persist.
Trump also spoke about his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiyy at the Vatican, describing it as a “beautiful meeting” and saying it went well.
Trump and Zelenskiyy, who were both in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, met to try to revive stalled efforts to end the war in Ukraine. It was the first meeting between the two leaders since a tense encounter at the White House in February and comes at a critical point in negotiations aimed at securing a peace deal.
