Supreme Court to hear Trump birthright citizenship case

The U.S. Supreme Court will hold a May 15th hearing on Trump’s order to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants, an executive move blocked by lower courts and now facing constitutional scrutiny under the 14th Amendment.

The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled a rare May 15th hearing to review President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants.

Issued on his inauguration day, the order has been blocked by district courts in Maryland, Massachusetts, and Washington, with appellate courts upholding those rulings. Birthright citizenship is currently guaranteed under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

While Trump argues for stricter citizenship criteria, calling it "a priceless and profound gift", federal judges have consistently opposed the order. The Justice Department, however, contends that lower courts lack authority to enforce nationwide injunctions.
