U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks on reaching a peace deal over Ukraine.
U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg.
According to the Kremlin, Witkoff traveled to Russia for talks with Putin focused on finding a peace deal for Ukraine. The meeting lasted more than four hours.
They also discussed the possibility of a meeting between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. While the two leaders have spoken by phone, they have not yet met in person since Trump began his second term in January.
Trump has voiced frustration with Putin over the state of negotiations, urging Moscow on social media to "get moving" on a peace deal with Ukraine.
This was Witkoff's third meeting with Putin this year, and Russian investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev described the talks as productive.
