Thailand plans to complete a 250-kilometre section of a high-speed railway linking the country with China by 2030, as Bangkok strengthens transport links and strategic ties with Beijing.
Bangkok is also preparing to begin work on a second phase linking Nakhon Ratchasima with Nong Khai, a province on the border with Laos.
The project will connect with Laos' existing high-speed railway, which links the country with Kunming in southern China.
Alongside the high-speed railway project, Thailand is also advancing another rail development that would connect its conventional rail network with Laos to the north and Malaysia to the south.
The projects form part of wider efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and trade routes across mainland Southeast Asia.
During Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's five-day visit to China, Thailand asked Beijing to increase imports of Thai agricultural products, including fruit and processed food.
China is Thailand's second-largest export market.
The two countries also agreed to establish a foreign affairs and defence coordination mechanism, while expanding cooperation in defence industries and personnel development.
Thailand and China also agreed to share intelligence and financial transaction data to help combat online scams and financial fraud.
