The United States carried out a third consecutive night of airstrikes against Iran, targeting military capabilities around the Strait of Hormuz as Donald Trump announced the reinstatement of a blockade on Iranian shipping and proposed a 20% fee on cargo passing through the strategic waterway.
Jordan said its armed forces intercepted and shot down four missiles that entered the country's airspace from Iranian territory, according to the state news agency.
The authorities did not immediately provide further details on the missiles' intended targets or report any damage or casualties.
The U.S. military said late on Monday its forces have completed their latest wave of strikes on Iran.
"During the five-hour mission, U.S. forces successfully struck military targets across Iran including Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas," the U.S. Central Command said in a statement on X.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Tuesday said two "offending supertankers" have been hit and disabled in the Strait of Hormuz after the ships ignored warnings, turned off navigation systems and attempted to pass through "a mined route", Iranian media reported citing a statement from the Guards.
The Guards, in its statement to Iranian media, said the U.S. was "inciting vessels to use an illegal route" and that cooperation with the "aggressor enemy" would result in damage, delays in reopening the strait and a global energy crisis.
Oil prices rose about 2% on Tuesday, with Brent crude reaching its highest level in four weeks, after the United States reinstated its naval blockade of Iran and both countries intensified military actions around the Strait of Hormuz.
