Iran's Revolutionary Guards say two supertankers hit, disabled in Strait of Hormuz, local media reports

Oil prices rose about 2% on Tuesday, with Brent crude reaching its highest level in four weeks, after the United States reinstated its naval blockade of Iran and both countries intensified military actions around the Strait of Hormuz.

The escalation, including Iranian missile strikes on two UAE oil tankers and renewed U.S. airstrikes, has heightened fears of disruptions to global oil supplies, driving energy prices higher.

Iran-U.S. conflict escalates as tankers are hit and Hormuz tensions deepen

The conflict escalated further after Iranian missiles struck two Emirati oil tankers, while Tehran said it had targeted a U.S. vessel and military facilities in the region in response. Explosions were reported across several Iranian locations, and Bahrain activated its air defence systems amid ongoing missile and drone attacks.

The United Nations' shipping agency criticised the proposed U.S. transit fee, saying there is no legal basis for imposing mandatory tolls on international straits. The intensifying conflict has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, pushed global oil prices sharply higher, and heightened concerns over regional security and global energy supplies.
