Sudan army demands RSF withdrawal for U.S. peace plan approval

Sudan’s army has said it will only fully support a U.S. peace proposal if the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) withdraw from all cities they have occupied since the conflict began. The U.S. plan calls for a 90-day humanitarian truce, followed by talks on a permanent ceasefire and a civilian-led transition. The army accepted most elements of the proposal but rejected a limited RSF withdrawal, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.

Authorities described the fires as the most devastating in the region’s history, with thousands evacuated and several people hospitalised. The wildfires come as a heatwave sweeps across Spain, with Barcelona recording its highest-ever temperature. Spain has deployed additional emergency units as extreme heat and dry conditions fuel wildfire risks across southern Europe.

WHO warns of health risks among Venezuela quake survivors

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has warned that disease outbreaks, poor sanitation and limited access to clean water could threaten thousands of survivors of Venezuela’s earthquakes. More than 17,900 people have been displaced and are living in shelters after twin quakes struck on 24 June. PAHO said it will work with Venezuela’s health authorities to monitor possible outbreaks and strengthen early warning systems.
