Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s body arrives in Qom 

The coffin of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has arrived in the Iranian city of Qom, one of the holiest cities in Shia Islam. A funeral procession is due to take place later on Tuesday in the city, a day after huge crowds attended a funeral ceremony in Tehran on Monday. The procession will head to Iraq for ceremonies on Wednesday before returning on Thursday to Iran.

NATO Summit begins in Ankara, Türkiye

Leaders from countries in the NATO alliance will meet in the Turkish capital Ankara on Tuesday for a two-day summit. U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend. He has previously called on Europe to step-up defence spending.

UK sanctions institutes linked to Navalny poisoning claims

Britain has announced sanctions against two Russian research institutes and several senior officials. The UK alleges they are linked to Moscow's chemical weapons programme and the development of toxic substances reportedly used in the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

U.S. out of World Cup after 4-1 loss to Belgium

The U.S. football team was knocked out of the World Cup in front of a home crowd in Seattle by Belgium on Monday evening. The match was overshadowed by controversy around FIFA’s suspension of a one match red card ban for U.S. player Folarin Balogun, after Donald Trump’s intervention. While Balogun was allowed to start for the U.S. team, he ultimately made little impact as the team conceded four goals to Belgium. 

Severe storms kill at least eight in China 

Central China has been battered by storms, which have left at least eight people dead. The bad weather is set to spread into eastern and southeastern China over the next 24 hours, according to the country’s National Meteorological Centre.
