“Respected and feared globally,” U.S. President Donald Trump told troops at Fort Bragg on Friday (13 February), framing America’s renewed strength against to mounting pressure on Iran amid stalled nuclear talks.
Speaking to active-duty soldiers in North Carolina, Trump highlighted the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest U.S. aircraft carrier, which will join the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East.
“We sent a very big carrier group to Iran,” he said, adding it is being positioned “ready” should negotiations fail.
U.S. officials confirmed the Gerald R. Ford and its escort ships are en route to reinforce existing naval forces in the region, in what officials described as both diplomatic intent and readiness for military action.
Asked whether he supported regime change in Iran, Trump replied that it “seems like that would be the best thing that could happen,” though he declined to name any preferred successor, saying only that “there are people.”
Trump also referenced past strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, emphasising that forceful measures remain an option if diplomacy falters.
Despite the tough rhetoric, he reiterated that the United States remains open to reaching a deal with Tehran.
No date has been set for the next round of talks, even as indirect negotiations continue.
