U.S. President Donald Trump told troops at Fort Bragg on Friday that America has regained respect and strength on the global stage and reiterated the need to confront Iran amid stalled nuclear negotiations.

Speaking on Friday to active-duty soldiers at the North Carolina base, Trump said the United States is respected and feared globally — language he used to frame the diplomatic pressure on Iran amid ongoing stalemate in nuclear talks.

“We sent a very big carrier group to Iran,” Trump said, referring to the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest U.S. aircraft carrier, to join the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East. He said the carrier is being positioned to be “ready” should negotiations fail.

The president spoke after U.S. officials confirmed that the Gerald R. Ford and its escort ships are leaving the Caribbean to reinforce the existing naval force in the region — a move widely seen as an effort to increase pressure on Tehran.

During his address, Trump also referenced past U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, saying forceful measures had to be an option if diplomacy did not succeed, and reiterated that the United States remains open to a deal.

Trump’s remarks to the troops came as part of a visit that also highlighted U.S. operations in Venezuela, including the capture of former President Nicolás Maduro earlier this year.

No date has been set for the next round of talks with Iran, even as indirect negotiations continue, and U.S. officials have indicated that the presence of two carrier strike groups in the Middle East signals both diplomatic intent and readiness for military action.
