A Ukrainian drone attack killed one person, injured four others and sparked fires at an unidentified industrial facility in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, regional officials said on Wednesday.
The governor of Russia’s Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar, said falling debris from downed drones damaged apartment buildings, sending four residents, among them a four-year-old, to hospital. He said all of the injured were receiving medical treatment.
He later said rescuers discovered a body of a man while clearing the rubble in an apartment that caught fire after the attack, while clearing the rubble.
Two fires broke out at an industrial site, though officials did not identify the facility. One blaze was extinguished by early Wednesday, while the other was contained, according to Slyusar.
The city’s mayor, Aleksandr Skryabin, said temporary accommodation had been arranged for families forced to leave damaged apartments.
The full extent of the damage was not immediately clear. Ukraine did not comment on the reported strike.
Russia's defence ministry said that its air defences destroyed 25 Ukrainian drones over the Rostov region overnight and 23 over other Russian regions and the Crimean Peninsula.
Rostov-on-Don is a major transport and logistics hub near Ukraine and hosts key military headquarters and supply routes for Russian forces.
