Protests interrupt Honduran special vote recount
Protests outside Honduras’ National Institute of Professional Training delayed a special recount of ballots from the disputed November 30 presidential election, officials said on Monday (December 15).
Hundreds of supporters of rival parties burned tires and waved flags, accusing authorities of fraud and foreign interference.
While voting on election day itself was calm, the subsequent process of tallying and reporting the ballots has been marred by chaos and confusion, including technical failures and political infighting.
Traffic chaos In Guadalajara after multi-car pile up
Three pick-up trucks and a car were involved in a serious crash in Guadalajara, in the western state of Jalisco, Mexico.
No casualties were reported, however emergency services were deployed to the scene of the crash in Avenida Vallarta.
The incident caused traffic to be closed for more than an hour.
Levee break compounds flooding danger amid heavy rains
A levee breach in Washington state following days of heavy rain led to a flash flood warning and evacuation orders.
Authorities said on Monday (December 15) that repairs were underway and could take several hours.
King County officials said they were closely monitoring the Desimone Levee in Tukwila along the Green River, about five miles south of downtown Seattle, where a car-sized chunk of the levee was washed away by floodwaters.
Images showed workers using heavy equipment to drop large sandbags into the hole, working to keep it from growing.
China launches new satellite into space
China launched another satellite into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch centre in Shanxi province on Tuesday.
The Ziyuan III 04 was launched by a Long March-4B rocket at 11:17 am local time. It’s the 617th rocket mission launched in China’s Long March series.
