U.S., Ukraine to continue work on 'refined' peace plan to end war with Russia

The United States and Ukraine were set to continue work on Monday on a plan to end the war with Russia after agreeing to modify an earlier proposal that was widely seen as too favorable to Moscow.

The two sides said in a joint statement they had drafted a "refined peace framework" after talks in Geneva on Sunday, although they did not provide specifics.

The White House separately said the Ukrainian delegation had told them it "reflects their national interests" and "addresses their core strategic requirements," although Kyiv did not issue a statement of its own.

Four killed in massive Russian drone attack on Kharkiv, officials say

Russian forces staged a "massive" drone attack on Sunday on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, killing four people and injuring several others, officials said.

"There is a massive attack on Kharkiv," Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

Terekhov said four people had been killed, including one person whose body was recovered from under rubble. Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said 12 people were injured, including two children aged 11 and 12.

Fifteen strikes were recorded in six areas of the city in northeastern Ukraine.

South Africa declares G20 summit a win for multilateralism

This weekend's G20 declaration shows a "renewed commitment to multilateral cooperation", South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Sunday.

Ramaphosa, host of the Johannesburg summit, managed to secure agreement on a final text addressing issues such as the climate crisis, despite strong objections from the United States, which boycotted the gathering.

At the closing ceremony, he said the outcome demonstrated that world leaders’ “shared goals outweigh our differences”.

Turkic states’ NGOs meet in Baku for first joint forum

Representatives from more than 500 non-governmental organisations across the Turkic states gathered in Baku on Monday for their first joint solidarity forum, ahead of plans to found a permanent platform in Nakhchivan.

The meeting, hosted at the “Gülüstan” Palace, marks the first time civil-society groups from members of the Turkic States Organisation have convened under one roof, according to Azerbaijan’s state news agency AZƏRTAC. Azerbaijan recently assumed the organisation’s rotating chairmanship.

Delegations from Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Hungary and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus joined Azerbaijani groups for what officials described as the largest event organised to date via Azerbaijan’s State Agency for Support to Non-Governmental Organisations.

Suicide bombers kill 3 at Pakistan paramilitary HQ

Three suicide bombers targeted the headquarters of a Pakistani paramilitary force on Monday, killing three personnel and wounding at least five, authorities said.

The attackers opened fire as they forced themselves into the headquarters of the frontier constabulary in Peshawar city before blowing themselves up inside the complex, police said.

Three paramilitary personnel were killed, said Javed Iqbal, the deputy commandant of the force.

"The first suicide bomber carried out an attack on the main entrance of the constabulary and the others entered the compound," a senior official told Reuters on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
