Severe flooding has triggered a red alert across six regions in France following record-breaking rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 630 mm (24.8 inches) of rain in just two days, according to the French meteorological service.
The regions affected, similar in size to U.S. or U.K. counties, include key locations such as Lyon and Cannes.
Several areas around Lyon were hit hard, with cars becoming submerged in floodwaters. In the Ardeche department, towns like Annonay and Labegude faced extreme downpours, leading to flooding that swept away some vehicles, according to fire crews in the area.
In response, authorities closed roads, evacuated residents, and urged people to stay safe rather than risking their lives by capturing photos or videos of the disaster.
Although the flooding has caused significant disruption, no injuries or fatalities have been reported, and the full scale of the damage is still being assessed.
