French member of parliament Olivier Marleix was found dead at his home on Monday, with suicide being considered a possible cause.
Marleix, 54, was a senior figure in the conservative Republicans party and had previously led the party’s group in the National Assembly.

News of his passing prompted a moment of silence in the French Parliament. President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences in a post on X, describing Marleix as a committed politician.
“The death of Olivier Marleix plunges our Parliament into mourning. An experienced politician, he defended his ideas with conviction. I also respected our differences, as they were rooted in our shared love for the country,” Macron wrote.
