Two Armenian teenagers who accidentally crossed into Azerbaijani territory have been safely returned, easing tensions after a brief border incident.
Two Armenian minors from Syunik Province (Western Zangezur), Karen Armen Jhangiryan (born June 27, 2007) and Andrey Armenovich Gyagunts (born January 13, 2008), unintentionally crossed into Azerbaijani territory on June 6, 2025, near the village of Aravus. According to Armenia’s National Security Service, the teenagers went missing around 1:20 AM and mistakenly crossed the border.
Efforts to locate and return them began immediately. On the same day, David Gulunts, head of the Tegh community, confirmed to Armenian media that both teenagers had been returned to Armenia safely. The incident, while brief, highlights the sensitivity of the border areas between the two countries.
