The Aegean region has become a key driver in Türkiye’s clean energy transition, supplying nearly 30 percent of the country’s wind power capacity and supporting millions of homes annually.
The Aegean region, known for its consistent coastal winds and picturesque landscapes, plays a crucial role in Türkiye’s clean energy transformation. It accounts for 29 percent of the nation’s total installed wind capacity, generating enough electricity for about 2.5 million households every year.
Ebru Arıcı, vice president of the Turkish Wind Energy Association, highlighted that wind power capacity has surged from 19 megawatts in 2005 to over 13,000 megawatts today, providing roughly 12 percent of the country’s electricity. İzmir is vital to this growth, supporting 40,000 jobs in wind energy equipment production, with 70 percent of this equipment exported.
As Türkiye advances its green energy agenda, the Aegean region exemplifies how sustainable development can successfully coexist with industrial growth—powered by the wind.
