Baku Energy Week highlights Azerbaijan's growing strategic role

Baku Energy Week has opened in Azerbaijan, bringing together global energy leaders to discuss energy security, green energy and regional cooperation, underscoring the country's growing strategic role in Eurasian connectivity.

The 31st Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition, the 14th Caspian International Clean Energy Exhibition and the 31st Baku Energy Forum are taking place as part of Baku Energy Week.

This year, 276 companies from 46 countries are participating in the event, with 35% of exhibitors attending for the first time.

Around 60% of participants are international companies, while 40% are local enterprises, reflecting growing global interest in Azerbaijan's energy sector.

Participants are discussing key topics including energy security, renewable energy, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, decarbonisation and the development of sustainable energy systems.

The exhibitions also showcase innovations in oil and gas production, drilling technologies, pipeline infrastructure, hydrogen solutions, electric transport and clean energy projects.

Middle Corridor gains strategic importance

Speaking to AnewZ's Anastasiya Lavrina on Inside Politics, NE Global's Director of Energy, Climate Policy and Security, Kostis Geropoulos, said the South Caucasus is attracting increased international attention because of shifting geopolitical realities, the energy transition and the growing importance of critical minerals.

U.S.-Azerbaijan energy cooperation in focus

Geropoulos added that the U.S. is paying closer attention to the region amid these developments, including renewable energy and critical mineral supply chains, and said Washington “wants to also play a key role” while viewing Azerbaijan as a strategic partner.

He noted that energy cooperation has long been a pillar of bilateral relations and said Azerbaijan's strategic importance has increased amid evolving global energy and transport dynamics.
