The process of evacuating foreign diplomats and citizens from Iran to Azerbaijan through the Astara state border crossing continues on Sunday (15 March), ensuring smooth and efficient transit for those arriving.
One Chinese citizen and five Azerbaijani nationals crossed the border into Azerbaijan on Sunday.

On Saturday alone, at least 60 individuals crossed into Azerbaijan. They included students from India, citizens of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Russia, and Canada, as well as a diplomat from the Pakistani embassy in Iran.
Authorities remain fully prepared to receive incoming arrivals, ensuring that all transit procedures are handled at maximum capacity.
The evacuation comes amid an ongoing conflict in Iran and the wider Middle East, which escalated after U.S. airstrikes killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on 28 February. Iran responded with missile strikes targeting airports, embassies, and U.S. military bases across the region.
The Astara border crossing remains a critical transit point for foreign nationals, and authorities continue to manage the evacuation process.
