A conference marking the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held on 3 November, where President Ilham Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing investment in science, and the country’s technological and geopolitical vision.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasised the Azerbaijani government’s growing support for scientific advancement, noting that funding for science has increased more than twofold over the past ten years.
The President praised ANAS for its decades-long contribution to the country’s academic and technological development.
Aliyev noted. “I am confident that the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Azerbaijani scientists will continue to contribute to the successful development of our country.”
Preserving the Azerbaijani language as a national duty
“Preserving the purity of the Azerbaijani language should be the duty of every Azerbaijani citizen,” President Aliyev said.
The head of state called on all segments of society- from scientists and writers to journalists and politicians, to safeguard the linguistic heritage of the nation.
He emphasised that the Azerbaijani language, spoken by more than 50 million people worldwide, is ancient and rich enough to meet all modern needs without excessive borrowing from foreign languages.
Return of Azerbaijanis to present-day Armenia poses no threat
President Ilham Aliyev stated that the return of Azerbaijanis to their historical lands within present-day Armenia should not be a cause for concern among the Armenian people or their government.
“Azerbaijanis have never fallen victim to the disease of separatism,” President Aliyev said. “Our people have contributed to the statehood of the countries they live in, and today, in no country do Azerbaijanis create or will create problems for any state or any other people.”
Large-scale geological research ongoing in Karabakh and East Zangezur
President Ilham Aliyev announced that extensive geological exploration has been taking place in the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions for several months.
The head of state invited Azerbaijani scientists to actively contribute to these research efforts.
“On my instructions, large-scale geological work has been underway in Karabakh and East Zangezur for several months,” President Aliyev said. “I am also giving instructions to state structures. I believe that in the next few months, we will receive very good news.”
The role of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in Azerbaijan’s future
President Ilham Aliyev emphasised the growing importance of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity in shaping Azerbaijan’s future development.
He added that Azerbaijan has already begun implementing artificial intelligence technologies across various sectors, including daily life, calling on local scientists to play an active role in this field.
“We expect the active participation of Azerbaijani scientists in this field,” the head of state said.
Addressing the issue of cybersecurity, President Aliyev said that Azerbaijan, like many other countries, has faced cyberattacks this year.
