Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar will meet senior European officials in Brussels on Monday to discuss Gaza reconstruction, humanitarian aid, and Israeli-Palestinian relations, marking the first high-level EU-Israel meeting since 2022.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar is set to co-chair the EU-Israel Association Council meeting alongside EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, focusing on humanitarian aid for Gaza, Israeli-Palestinian relations, and changing dynamics in the region.
The meeting comes as the EU considers its role in Gaza's reconstruction following last month’s ceasefire. Israel’s ambassador to the EU, Haim Regev, called the meeting an “important opportunity” to strengthen Israel-EU partnerships.
The bloc remains divided over Israel’s actions in Gaza. While all member states condemned Hamas’s attacks in October 2023, opinions differ on Israel’s military response and its impact on civilians.
A draft EU statement emphasizes support for Israel’s security while advocating a safe return for displaced Gazans.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump proposed the U.S. “take over” Gaza, sparking backlash from Arab nations and Western allies.
The war has killed 1,200 Israelis and left 48,000 Palestinians dead, according to health authorities, displacing hundreds of thousands and leaving many dependent on aid.
