Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov’s official visit to South Korea has resulted in the signing of over 20 agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties across critical sectors, including energy, trade, climate change, and education.
A key highlight of the visit was the adoption of a Joint Statement on the Establishment of a Comprehensive Partnership between the two nations, reflecting a commitment to deeper cooperation. Other notable agreements include a Framework Agreement on Climate Change Cooperation and an update to the 2012 double taxation avoidance treaty.
South Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) pledged support for Kyrgyzstan with a financing framework for 2025–2029, while energy agreements focused on hydropower development, decarbonization, and renewable energy projects. Additionally, trade partnerships were bolstered through agreements between KyrgyzExport and major South Korean trade associations, including KOTRA and KOIMA.
During the visit, President Zhaparov held talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, discussing regional and international issues, along with prospects for future collaboration.
This visit marks a significant step in elevating Kyrgyz-South Korean relations, with both sides underscoring their shared goals of sustainable development and enhanced economic ties.
