U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Uzbekistan Airways signed an $8 billion deal with Boeing for up to 22 Dreamliners, coinciding with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s economic diplomacy push in New York.
Trump said on Truth Social that he had spoken to Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev earlier this month. Boeing separately confirmed the order on Monday, describing it as a significant expansion of its cooperation with the Central Asian nation’s flag carrier.
The announcement came as Mirziyoyev hosted a roundtable in New York City with leading U.S. companies, senior executives from international financial institutions and representatives of the U.S. Government. The discussions centred on expanding two-way trade and investment flows and identifying priority areas for near and long-term cooperation.
Participants examined opportunities in energy, including projects aligned with a greener economy, as well as partnerships in digital technologies to support Uzbekistan’s modernisation agenda. Infrastructure remained a core focus, with talks covering transport, logistics and connectivity to improve the movement of goods and services. The dialogue also highlighted collaboration in education, science and innovation to nurture skills, accelerate technology transfer and strengthen research ties.
According to the Uzbek side, a number of new agreements and initiatives were reached, opening the way for fresh opportunities and durable collaboration between Uzbekistan and the United States. These outcomes are expected to support private sector participation, facilitate financing for strategic projects and encourage co-creation in high value sectors.
Officials and business leaders described the New York engagements as a practical step toward a future-oriented partnership that benefits people in both countries. The meetings reinforced the shared commitment to deepen economic links, build resilient supply chains and broaden the base of joint ventures that can deliver tangible results.
The Boeing deal, worth more than $8 billion, is expected to serve as a cornerstone of this partnership, enhancing Uzbekistan Airways’ fleet and symbolising stronger U.S.-Uzbek economic ties.
