Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan have concluded a two-day visit to Garabagh and Eastern Zangezur, touring key cultural, educational, economic and infrastructure sites in the region.
The first day of the visit centred on Khankendi and Shusha. In Khankendi, the delegation visited the Railway and Bus Station Complex for a briefing on ongoing work at the site. They also visited the city’s Cultural Centre, where Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, welcomed the delegation.
The diplomats then visited Zafar Park and toured Garabagh University, where they were briefed on its facilities and activities. At the AzCotton sewing factory, they learned about the company’s operations and local production.
In Shusha, the delegation received a briefing on development and heritage preservation before touring severalhistorical and cultural sites, including the New Shusha Mosque, Jidir Duzu, Garabagh Street, the Upper Govhar Agha Mosque and the city’s fortress walls.
They also viewed the “Heydar Aliyev and Garabagh” exhibition at the Shusha Creative Centre and visited the first residential area, where they met residents and learned about local facilities.
The second day centred on Aghdara and Kalbajar. The delegation visited the Ganjasar and Khudaveng monastery complexes, where they learned about the sites’ history, architectural features and preservation efforts.
They also visited the Istisu mineral water bottling plant and were briefed on its operations.
The two-day visit concluded at the Honey Festival in Kalbajar. Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture said developing the economic potential of the liberated territories and reviving agriculture and agrarian production in Kalbajar are among the state’s priorities.
The minister highlighted Kalbajar’s natural conditions and long-standing beekeeping traditions, saying the region has significant potential for the development of apiculture.
Seasonal beekeeping operations began relocating to the liberated territories in 2021, with apiaries transferred to Lachin and Kalbajar. During the 2026 seasonal relocation period, 148,308 bee colonies belonging to 3,396 farmers were authorised for transfer to Kalbajar, according to the minister.
He said the Honey Festival showcased the revival of the agricultural sector, promoted local production and highlighted Kalbajar’s economic potential.
The visit marked the 22nd trip by representatives of the diplomatic corps to Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation since 2020. The visits give foreign diplomats an opportunity to see infrastructure and socio-economic development projects first-hand, alongside efforts to preserve the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
