Turkish and European researchers will collaborate on brain disease treatments and patient care under the EU Joint Program on Neurodegenerative Diseases, with TUBITAK supporting projects up to €225,000.
Turkish and European researchers will work together on projects focused on treating brain diseases and improving patient care through the EU Joint Program on Neurodegenerative Diseases (JPND) global research initiative.
Türkiye's Scientific and Technological Research Institution (TUBITAK) has committed €225,000 ($236,050) to support these efforts. The program aims to advance research on neurodegenerative diseases and enhance treatment options, especially for the later stages of these conditions.
The JPND initiative covers Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, prion diseases, motor neuron diseases, Huntington’s, spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The focus will be on developing new treatments, creating intervention models, and drafting strategies for prevention.
Additionally, the projects aim to establish guidelines for socio-cognitive tests across Europe and beyond, standardize procedures, and foster the development of innovative healthcare approaches. Research will also explore improvements in dementia care, alternative housing solutions like dementia villages, and the enhancement of patient support systems.
Project consortia must include coordinators from at least three and at most six countries, and the projects can last no longer than three years. In Türkiye, project proposals must be submitted through TUBITAK, with the institute contributing up to $236,050 per project.
The deadline for the first phase of submissions is March 4 for contacting the Call Secretariats and March 12 for submitting applications to TUBITAK.
