Known for its rich history and mountain landscapes, Azerbaijan's Gabala district is attracting visitors with another seasonal highlight. Vast lavender fields are becoming a key attraction in the region's growing agritourism sector.

A rural retreat in bloom

Among the district's most popular attractions is Essenso Garden, an agritourism centre in the village of Chukhur, which combines eco-tourism with local production in a distinctive rural setting.

Established in 2018 on a 30-hectare site, the centre cultivates lavender and other aromatic plants while producing natural lavender oil and a range of environmentally friendly products.

A sea of purple blooms

From mid-May until the end of October, the gardens burst into colour as rows of blooming lavender create sweeping purple landscapes across the property. The fields are complemented by a variety of aromatic and ornamental plants.

The themed photo zones have become a favourite attraction for visitors looking to capture the scenery and share it on social media.

As evening falls, the setting sun casts a golden glow across the lavender fields, creating one of the region's most photographed views.

Agritourism on the rise

Essenso Garden reflects the growing popularity of agritourism in Azerbaijan, offering visitors the opportunity to experience local agriculture alongside the country's natural beauty.

The centre combines leisure with education by showcasing the cultivation and processing of lavender into essential oils and other natural products.

A year-round destination

Gabala remains one of Azerbaijan's leading tourist destinations throughout the year.

The district attracts domestic and international visitors with its forests, mountains, historical landmarks and outdoor activities.

During the summer months, the lavender fields add another dimension to the district's appeal, offering a tranquil setting where visitors can enjoy nature, photography and locally produced artisanal goods in one of the country's most picturesque regions.
