Brazilian President met on Wednesday (19 November) at the COP30 summit to push for early agreements on some of the most contentious issues in global climate talks, including fossil fuels and climate finance.

The Brazilian leader and senior officials met with ministers from African and small island states’ negotiating groups in a bid to build consensus at COP30.

The closed-door session included Brazil’s Environment and Climate Change Minister Marina Silva and COP30 President Ambassador Andre Correa do Lago.

Discussions focused primarily on climate finance, adaptation, and mitigation strategies.

Host Brazil aims to buck the trend of recent climate summits running over schedule, seeking to endorse a package of agreements on Wednesday and resolve outstanding issues by Friday (21 November). However, delays in publishing new negotiating texts have already been reported.
