Germany and Azerbaijan sign 10-year gas deal
Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR has signed a 10-year natural gas supply deal with Germany’s state-owned SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe), the companies announced on Tuesday.
SOCAR Energy Switzerland, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), has commissioned Switzerland’s first fast-charging station for electric trucks.
Located at the Kölliken-Nord rest area along the A1 national highway, the new station is designed specifically for charging electric heavy-duty vehicles, offering a maximum power output of 400 kW.
This high-capacity infrastructure significantly reduces charging times for electric trucks—a major benefit for the logistics sector, - said SOCAR Energy Switzerland in its statement.
By the end of 2026, SOCAR plans to install around 100 charging points for electric passenger and commercial vehicles across Switzerland.
Kölliken holds historical significance as one of the first Swiss towns to introduce roadside refueling infrastructure. Switzerland’s first highway gas station opened there in 1967.
In Switzerland, SOCAR is active in the retail petroleum market, continually expanding its network of gas stations under the SOCAR brand.
In November 2011, SOCAR signed an agreement in Zurich to acquire shares in Ecco Schweiz GmbH for $330 million. The deal granted SOCAR control of a retail network of 170 gas stations, which has since grown to 200.
Zurich also hosts the headquarters of SOCAR Trading, the company’s international trading arm.
On July 1, 2023, SOCAR further expanded its clean energy efforts by opening Switzerland’s first hydrogen refueling station, located at Grauholz Süd.
