EU agreed to extend sectoral sanctions on Russia

European Parliament

The EU today officially agreed to extend sectoral sanctions on Russia, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced via X.

"We will continue to pile pressure on Moscow to end its war in Ukraine. Each sanction weakens Russia’s ability to wage war," - she stated.

Ukranian President Volodymr Zelenskyy said that global sanctions against Russia must now be one of the top priorities.

"They are a real tool for limiting Russia’s strategic capabilities and potential, and they must increasingly and painfully restrict Russia’s ability to continue its war against our independence. I thank everyone who is helping," - he said on X.

The European Commission on 10 June proposed a new round of sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago in February 2022, targeting Moscow's energy revenues, banks and military industry.
