Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held the 12th session of their Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in Abu Dhabi, the first in 13 years, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The last session took place in Islamabad in November 2013.
Both sides discussed cooperation in trade, banking, investment, defence, aviation, energy, food security, railways, climate change, education, health, manpower, and technology.
They signed:
- A protocol to enhance coordination through sectoral working groups
- A visa exemption agreement for official passport holders
- A deal to create a joint task force on investment
- An agreement on artificial intelligence and digital economy
The two countries also held the second round of Bilateral Political Consultations and agreed to maintain high-level engagement. The next sessions of the JMC and political talks will be held in Islamabad.
The UAE hosts over 1.5 million Pakistanis. In 2024, it sent more than $3.47 billion in remittances. Trade between the two countries exceeded $10.9 billion.
