US President Donald Trump rejected the official assessment from his intelligence community that Iran is not currently building a nuclear weapon.
Asked about the intelligence position, Trump said, “Then my intelligence community is wrong. Why would the intelligence community say that?”
When told the statement came from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who testified in March that Iran is not developing nuclear arms, Trump responded bluntly, “She’s wrong.”
Gabbard had said the intelligence community continues to assess that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has not authorized a nuclear weapons program since suspending it in 2003.
US intelligence sources also told CNN the same—that Iran would need at least two to three years to build and deploy a nuclear bomb.
US intelligence believes Israel’s attacks set back Iran’s nuclear program by only months, with major facilities like Fordo remaining largely untouched.
