Iran's foreign minister is expected in Istanbul on Saturday for a key Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) council meeting as regional tensions rise over Israel's strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

The 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers will address Israel's recent attacks on Iran, including Thursday’s strike on the Khondab nuclear facility in Arak, where Israel claimed to target a partially built heavy-water reactor.

Türkiye has condemned Israel’s actions as illegal, defending Iran's right to defend itself.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will open the summit, urging Muslim nations to confront regional destabilization, while President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also expected to speak.

The OIC Council comprises of 57 member states and remains a central platform for Muslim-majority countries to coordinate on political and diplomatic matters.
