South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung appoints Yeo Han-koo as chief trade negotiator amid ongoing tariff talks with the U.S., aiming to ease tensions and secure a swift deal.

South Korea’s newly elected President Lee Jae-myung has named former Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo as the country’s chief trade negotiator to manage crucial tariff discussions with the United States. Yeo, who served under the Moon Jae-in administration, takes the lead amid the ongoing efforts to resolve tariff disputes following the U.S. imposition of duties earlier this year. President Lee also appointed key figures in the finance and foreign ministries to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties. In a recent phone call, Lee and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to work toward a quick resolution of the tariff issues. Meanwhile, Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok highlighted the importance of strong relations with the U.S. and Japan for economic recovery and trade negotiations.
