Russia is prepared to present a detailed peace memorandum to Ukraine during the second round of renewed direct talks in Istanbul, scheduled for Monday, June 2, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced Wednesday.
Lavrov said Moscow had “promptly developed” a document laying out Russia’s position on how to address the root causes of the war. The document will be delivered by a delegation led by Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, who is expected to meet his Ukrainian counterparts at the agreed venue in Türkiye.
“Our delegation is ready to present the memorandum and provide all necessary explanations,” Lavrov stated, adding that the aim is to reach a sustainable settlement to the ongoing conflict.
The announcement comes after the first round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine resumed in Istanbul on May 16, with support from the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. That initial meeting led to a significant prisoner exchange — 1,000 people from each side.
Lavrov thanked Türkiye for hosting the renewed talks and emphasized the importance of continued international support for the peace process.
“We hope that all those who sincerely seek peace will support the next round of Istanbul negotiations,” he said.
