Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has said that cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is deepening despite turbulence in global politics and the world economy.
Mishustin made the remarks during the 30th regular meeting of China-Russia heads of government in Hangzhou, China, where he met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The Russian premier highlighted the launch of several large-scale joint projects, including the development of oil and gas fields, production of high-tech equipment, and collaboration in energy, peaceful nuclear power, and space and lunar exploration.
“We are implementing joint programmes in aviation and automotive manufacturing, developing transport corridors, and operating in extreme Arctic conditions,” Mishustin said.
He added that the two countries share broad common interests and similar views on fundamental issues, noting that the use of the dollar and euro in bilateral trade has fallen to a negligible level.
Mishustin also said Moscow hopes to boost tourism, aided by a visa-free regime for Russian citizens travelling to China, and indicated that similar measures are being considered for Chinese citizens. He noted plans to increase exports of Russian food products, which have become popular in China.
The two sides also signed a number of documents, including a joint communique. Mishustin invited Li to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow on 17–18 November.
Li said Beijing is committed to strengthening strategic communication with Moscow, expanding cooperation across sectors, and safeguarding shared development and security interests. He emphasised China’s intent to advance the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.
Mishustin arrived in China for a two-day visit on Monday, which also includes a planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
