The EU is preparing new sanctions to increase pressure on Russia. The package targets Nord Stream pipelines, expands sanctions on shadow fleet vessels, lowers the oil price cap, and tightens restrictions on Russia’s financial sector, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.
The European Union is set to roll out fresh sanctions on Russia as part of efforts to escalate pressure on President Vladimir Putin. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed on Friday that the new package will target key areas, including the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines.
The upcoming sanctions will also extend to more vessels in Russia’s “shadow fleet” and seek to further lower the oil price cap to limit Moscow’s revenue. Additional measures will target the Russian financial sector, aiming to deepen economic restrictions.
Von der Leyen made the announcement ahead of a meeting with European leaders in Tirana, Albania, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to increasing pressure on Russia amid ongoing tensions.
