Israel has formally informed the International Criminal Court (ICC) of its intention to appeal against arrest warrants issued for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant in connection with their roles in the Gaza conflict. Netanyahu’s office confirmed the move on Wednesday, stating that the appeal would also include a request to delay the execution of the warrants.
The ICC had issued the warrants last Thursday, accusing Netanyahu, Gallant, and Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif, also known as Ibrahim Al-Masri, of war crimes and crimes against humanity in relation to the ongoing Gaza war.
In addition, Netanyahu revealed that US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham had briefed him on measures being introduced in the US Congress aimed at opposing the ICC and countries cooperating with the court.
