A fire broke out on Wednesday at a chemical distribution warehouse near Seville in southern Spain, prompting authorities to advise residents to stay indoors due to the potential release of toxic smoke.

The blaze erupted around 1:20 p.m. local time (1120 GMT) at the La Red industrial park in Alcalá de Guadaíra, approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) southeast of Seville. Emergency services received hundreds of calls alerting them to the incident, according to a spokesperson for the regional emergency services.

The fire occurred at a facility operated by Plainsur, a local chemical distributor. According to the company's website, it handles highly flammable and potentially hazardous substances including ethylene, toluene, and various industrial solvents.

Although emergency teams had yet to independently verify the information, Plainsur reported that all employees had been safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

As a precaution, the town hall of Alcalá de Guadaíra instructed its 77,000 residents to shelter in place with windows and doors closed. Adjacent warehouses were evacuated amid uncertainty about the toxicity of the thick, dark smoke rising from the site.
