U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" after four days of escalating military strikes between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
After days of escalating conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan had reached a ceasefire agreement, ending a tense period of cross-border strikes between the two nuclear-armed nations.
"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "Full and immediate ceasefire". Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Pakistan’s foreign minister confirmed the development, stating that the ceasefire would take effect immediately.
The announcement came amid growing fears that the conflict could escalate into a nuclear crisis. Earlier in the day, the Pakistani military said a high-level body overseeing the country’s nuclear arsenal was expected to meet. However, the defence minister later clarified that no such meeting was scheduled.
Despite a rising civilian death toll—now at 66—officials on both sides signaled a readiness to de-escalate tensions following the day’s exchanges.
The ceasefire, if it holds, marks a crucial pause in a rapidly deteriorating situation, which had alarmed regional powers and the international community.
