Netflix has announced a sequel to the hit animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters, with director Maggie Kang saying she is excited to show audiences what more is in store.
The Golden Globes award-winning first K-Pop Demon Hunters film, released last year, has become Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time and produced the multi-award-winning hit song Golden.
It is also tipped to win Best Animated Feature at the Oscars ceremony this Sunday.
The animated film has reached more than 500 million views on Netflix since its debut in June 2025, becoming the most-watched English-language film in the platform’s history.
The story follows K-pop group Huntr/x bandmates Rumi, Mira and Zoey as they navigate fame while moonlighting as secret demon hunters.
It quickly became a hit among young audiences, making it a rare K-pop production to break into mainstream Western markets.
Although there is no release date for the sequel yet, the first film took seven years to make - from the initial idea to its release on Netflix. However, fans may be hoping the next instalment arrives sooner than that.
We dreamin' hard, we came so far
Maggie Kang, one of the film’s co-directors, told the BBC in an interview in October: "There's definitely more we can do with these characters in this world. And whatever it will be, it will be a story that deserves to be a sequel and it will be something that we want to see."
One of the producers of 'Golden' has said he wants to continue the “high energy” and visual elements they brought to the first film.
Co-directors Kang and Chris Appelhans have also signed a new exclusive multi-year deal with Netflix, with the sequel set to be the first project under the agreement.
