The Kremlin says it still intends to observe a three-day ceasefire this week during Victory Day celebrations but has warned it will respond to any Ukrainian strikes during the pause.
Russia remains committed to a 72-hour ceasefire from 8 to 10 May, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, despite receiving no indication from Ukraine that it will honour the halt.
The proposed ceasefire is set to coincide with Moscow’s annual Victory Day commemorations on 9 May. However, Peskov cautioned that Russia will take action if Ukrainian forces use the window to launch attacks on Russian positions.
Responding to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump about oil prices potentially influencing the course of the war, Peskov stated that while energy markets are important, Russia’s national interests are its top priority.
He added that Russia continues to monitor global oil trends and remains actively engaged in the OPEC+ framework to help stabilise prices.
