Ukrainian authorities reported multiple injuries and one child fatality after overnight drone attacks they attributed to Russia struck several regions, including Kyiv.
Ukrainian officials said on Tuesday that a 12-year-old girl was killed and several people were injured during overnight drone strikes across the country. The attacks, which Ukraine attributed to Russia, targeted regions including the central Dnipropetrovsk area and the capital Kyiv.
In the Samarivskyi district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, emergency services reported that a drone struck a residential building. A 12-year-old girl was pulled from the rubble by residents but died en route to the hospital. A 6-year-old girl and two adults were also injured, regional governor Serhiy Lysak said.
In another part of the Dnipropetrovsk region, the city of Nikopol, a 47-year-old woman was reported injured. Lysak added that Ukrainian air defences had intercepted seven drones in the region during the night.
Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that falling drone debris sparked a fire at a recreational facility in the city’s northeastern Desnianskyi district. Three people sought medical attention following the incident. Kyiv’s military administration said air defence systems were activated just before 1 a.m. local time.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched approximately 100 drones overnight, with 37 intercepted. While Russian officials have not commented on the latest strikes, Moscow has previously denied targeting civilians during the ongoing conflict.
The strikes come days after a separate barrage involving missiles and drones killed 13 people in Kyiv. That incident prompted international responses, including a statement from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who said efforts were under way to urge Russia to halt such attacks.
