U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying he was "very angry" and "pissed off" over remarks about Ukraine’s leadership. He warned of tariffs on Russian oil if Moscow is deemed responsible for prolonging the war.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he was "very angry" and "pissed off" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to NBC, as Washington works to bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine.

“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Trump stated in phone call with NBC News on Sunday.

Trump also conveyed that "I was very angry, pissed off" regarding Putin's recent comments about Zelenskyy’s credibility and his suggestion of new leadership in Ukraine.

Since taking office, Trump has advocated for a swift resolution to the war, which has lasted more than three years. However, his administration has yet to achieve a breakthrough despite engaging in discussions with both parties.

Putin dismissed a joint U.S.- Ukrainian proposal for a 30-day ceasefire and, on Friday, suggested Zelenskyy should be removed from power as part of a peace agreement.

Ukraine has accused Russia of prolonging negotiations without any real intention of ending its military offensive.

Speaking to NBC, Trump added that Putin is aware of his anger but added that he maintains "a very good relationship with him" and that "the anger dissipates quickly ... if he does the right thing."
