A cargo ship rammed into an oil tanker off England’s northeast coast on Monday, igniting a fire and spilling jet fuel into the sea, forcing crews to abandon ship as explosions erupted.

Ship tracking data and industry sources identified the vessels as the chemical tanker Stena Immaculate and the container ship Solong. The tanker, carrying jet fuel, was at anchor when the container ship struck it, rupturing a cargo tank and sparking a fire, according to operator Stena Bulk.

The impact led to multiple explosions, forcing both crews to abandon ship. Footage from the scene matches the reported vessels, and Reuters independently verified the location and date of the incident.

Authorities said 32 casualties were treated, with one person remaining hospitalized by mid-afternoon. Maritime security sources stated no signs of malicious activity were involved in the crash.

Local emergency teams continue to monitor the fuel spill, while investigators work to determine the cause of the collision.
