Brasília, Brazil, February 20, 2025 – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reaffirmed his country’s neutrality in the Ukraine conflict by rejecting a request from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to purchase Brazilian arms for Kyiv.
Speaking at a recent conference, Lula made it clear that Brazil will not supply weapons that could escalate the conflict.
"I am not going to sell weapons to kill Russians or anyone else," Lula stated, emphasizing his commitment to a diplomatic resolution to the war. His remarks underscore Brazil’s longstanding policy of avoiding direct involvement in international military conflicts, opting instead for dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
The rejection of Scholz’s request comes amid ongoing international debates over the supply of arms to Ukraine. While several countries have provided military support to Kyiv, Brazil has consistently maintained a stance of neutrality, favoring diplomatic efforts over military intervention.
